Joys and Concerns
There are many ways in which our lives are woven together. Honoring those connections is one of the ways we continue to form deeper relationships within community. In a spirit of prayer, please keep these spoken concerns in your hearts and minds in the coming days.

Within our faith community:
·        We pray for those who aren’t able to join us in worship this morning due to their current health limitations including: Margie Petry, Gene Snyder and Louise Miller.
·        Those Deacons we lift in prayer include: Karl Merritt, Bev Petry, Sharon Pittman, Steve & Donna Priest and Celia Shankster.
·        Ruth Tully recovering in Timbercrest Healthcare following a recent hospitalization.
·        For the family of Mike Brown who died August 10Memorial services were Sunday, September 4.

In the wider faith community:
·       We pray for our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We pray for the ministry of Emanuel in the community and for their pastor Miguel Tomas Castro.
·       We pray for peace.

Event at GilChrist Retreat Center lanned for October 17-18
The Circle of Trust Facilitators invite you to an overnight event at the Fetzer Institutes retreat center near Three Rivers, MI. This overnight event will give participants a chance to set aside the demands of days and spend a period of time in discernment and reflection. This is an invitation to some open space, some breathing space to: gain perspective, simply be, be refreshed, or whatever way participants can identify how this time apart can be most helpful. The space can handle up to 11 people and the $60 fee includes lodging and meeting space rental and some food. If interested, be in touch with either Nancy Olson, Helen Beery or Jim Chinworth. The group will depart North Manchester at 8am Monday, October 17 and return late afternoon Tuesday (18th).

U.N. Day of Peace
An observance of International Peace Day will take place on Wednesday, September 21, in the Timbercrest Chapel. Everyone in the area is invited to participate. The celebration will be from 3 and 4 p.m.
The United Nations established Peace Day in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. This day provides an opportunity for all of us – individuals, families, organizations and nations – to do practical acts of peace on a shared date. There is a need for peace everywhere. We need it following ball games or when there’s bullying in our schools. We need peace in our homes, on our roads and in our neighborhoods.
Come together with others in our community to think about peace and acts of peace. You’re invited to bring a quote, a song, a story, a poem, a scripture and/or a prayer to share. Or just come to be with us as we celebrate peace. Let’s show our desire to sow love and hope in the world.

 Register NOW to help!
Volunteers must register before Sept. 17 to participate in the Middle Eel River Clean-Up. This is an adults-only task, by persons prepared to spend the entire morning in water, lifting, filling canoes and walking downstream. Participants must wear water shoes, tennis shoes or boots. No sandals – the river is filled with sharp objects. Participants also should come prepared for contact with poison ivy and insects.
Perhaps you’d like to join us? .We’ll start at 8:30 a.m. the North Manchester Waste Treatment Plant, with a brief safety talk and distribution of gloves, hats, etc. Then we’ll ferry to the Covered Bridge, where we will put in and work south, back to the plant. It will take all morning. The news release also is on our website at:
 http://www.manchester.edu/News/EelCleanUp2011.htm

The task is arduous yet satisfying, as volunteers see the canoes piled high with trash bound for recycling or landfills. Gloves, trash bags, drinking water and a noon lunch will be provided, as well as a Middle Eel River Watershed Initiative cap.
Advance registration is required. For more information, call: 260-982-5101 or
tmmichaelis@manchester.edu.
Initially funded by a $1 million Clean Water Act Grant, the Initiative is a coalition led by Manchester College of agencies and individuals who seek to improve water quality, enhance recreation and promote conservation of natural resources in the middle Eel River watershed.
