Joys and Concerns
There are many ways in which our lives are woven together. Honoring those connections is one of the ways we continue to form deeper relationships within community. In a spirit of prayer, please keep these spoken concerns in your hearts and minds in the coming days.
Within our faith community:
v We celebrate the birth of Hannah Norene Crosby. Hannah was born on Thursday evening, September 15 to Sarah & Matthew Crosby. From our congregation, Hannah’s great-grandmother is Jean Stone and her great-aunt is Edith Stone. Everyone is doing well.
v We pray for those who aren’t able to join us this morning for worship due to their current health limitations including: Erma Petry, Fred & Lois Roop and Raymon Eller.
v Those Deacons we lift in prayer this morning include: Di Wion, Dorotha Williams, Barbara McFadden and Don & Marie Willoughby.
v Ruth Tully at Timbercrest Healthcare following a recent hospitalization.
v Joyce McFadden released to Hospice Care at Timbercrest Healthcare following a recent hospitalization.
In the wider community we pray for:
v Our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We pray for Pastor Miguel as he travels and speaks to churches in Canada encouraging more support for Emanuel’s ministries.
v Those leading and attending District Conference on Saturday, September 24 at the Logansport Church of the Brethren.
v And this week as we observe the International Day of Peace on Wednesday, September 21, we continue our commitment and prayers for peace in the world.

Making the Most of Life: How to Live Fully When There is No Cure
Presented by Clinical Social Worker Becky Kreps, Coordinator of Support Services with Guardian Angel who has ten years experience providing care in the home to terminally ill patients and their families, this workshop will focus on options for care at the end of life as well as the factors that contribute to living with intention even when life is uncertain.
Radical Relationship-Building
Presented by Rachel Gross who has supported the Death Row Support project for over 30 years, this workshop will include stories about writing to people on death row and will reflect on why Jesus told us to visit people in prison.
Soups & Stews: Warmth for the Winter
Presented by Associate Pastor Karen Eberly who loves spending time in the kitchen discovering new recipes, this workshop will supply recipes, ideas and tastes of easy, affordable, healthy soups and stews to fix for those who gather around a table.
The Abundant Community
Presented by Jeff Hawkins, Executive Director of HOPE CSA, a clergy continuing education organization, and Clergy and Congregation Care Director for the Samaritan Counseling Center in South Bend, this workshop draws on Jeff’s passion about local communities, especially congregations and small towns. His community led efforts in the past helped to establish the firehouse and Education for Conflict Resolution. Recently he led a small group of citizens to think through ideas for “community enhancement,” out of which was formed the Manchester PATH group.
Brethren Non-Violence
Presented by Katy Gray Brown, Director of Peace Studies at Manchester College, this workshop will focus on the historic commitment to non-violence and the contemporary struggle to be a living peace church. You will be invited to share your perspective.

We need Buckets!
Church World Service (CWS) is appealing for donations of 10,000 Emergency Clean-up Buckets for distribution to people affected by Hurricane Irene, from North Carolina to New England. In a recent press release, Bert Marshall, CWS regional director for New England, points out that many of the people in communities that now are receiving CWS relief supplies have been among the most generous donors of Emergency Clean-up Buckets and other supplies in the past. "Some of these buckets, people might even recognize coming back," said Marshall. CWS has been distributing supplies to people made homeless by flooding in places like Brattleboro, Vt., the release noted. Those wishing to help by donating Emergency Clean-up Buckets can find instructions and a list of bucket contents at www.churchworldservice.org/buckets .
The Church of the Brethren’s Emergency Disaster Fund (EDF) has made a grant of $20,000 in response to a CWS appeal following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene. The money will support the work of CWS in providing cleanup buckets, hygiene kits, baby kits, school kits, and blankets in communities affected by the disaster, and will support the work of CWS to assist communities in long-term recovery development.
