Manchester Church of the Brethren
October 31, 2010 Memo
Joys and Concerns
There is much that connects us to each other in this community of faith. Please keep these thoughts in your hearts and minds in the days to come.
Within our church family:
• We celebrate the continued recovery of Teagan Marti, the great-niece of Gordon & Darlene Bucher. Teagan returned home for further rehabilitation and recovery on Friday, October 29. She had been hospitalized for 13 weeks. We continue to pray for Teagan and her family as they enter this new phase of improvement and healing.
• Those who were unable to worship with us due to their current health limitations, including: Helen Evans, Margie Petry, Gene Snyder and Louise Miller.
• Ken Brown, hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic.
• Howard Domer recovering at home following a recent hospitalization.
• Ferne Baldwin recovering following a recent hospitalization.
• Jean Stone continuing her recovery at home.
Within the wider community:
• Our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We pray for Sarah Hall and her BVS Salvadoran ministry with Emanuel church. We rejoice together with Emanuel and Sarah in this wonderful commitment. We pray for the vision and strength for Sarah to live this life of service.
• We pray for peace.
Stewardship Commitment
We were glad to receive the stewardship commitment cards for 2011 during worship this past Sunday. If you missed worship, or did not receive a commitment card with the stewardship letter and would like to participate in pledging, please contact the church office. There are still cards available. Completed commitment cards can be returned to the church office in person or through the mail, and will be given directly to the financial secretary to record. Thank you for your generous and faithful support of the church!

Workers Needed

Community Variety Show at the Firehouse
You are invited to a firehouse fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 pm. This variety show will include, among many other acts, Eric Reichenbach, Emily Perkins and Kathy Hawkins in a reprise of the hilarious "Easy Street" number from "Annie" and Kurt Borgmann as he presents a humorous story/monologue about life in North Manchester. Derek Self, Claire Brumbaugh-Smith and Taylor Byers will also be performing on stage.
Other acts include high school students and other local talent presenting songs and skits. The tickets, which are available at the door, are $10.00/adults and $5.00/students. Doors open at 6:45...seating is limited. This will go toward raising $10,000, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a firehouse supporter.
The funds will go toward the firehouse Black Box theatre which is in need of lighting, seating and risers...and toward booking bands which continue to provide music for our community's youth. Trash cans, eco lyrics and great music:
Vocal Trash brings its eco-message to Manchester College combining the trash-can drum work of “Stomp,” horns, acoustic guitars and a vocal blend of country, oldies and contemporary on Saturday, Nov. 20.
The high-octane Texas-based production is perfect for all ages, with drumming theatrics and comedy that will engage children, especially. Even the popular sustainability website TreeHugger.com raves about Vocal Trash, with praise for such eco-friendly lyrics as "Take care of Mother Earth, because if Mother's not happy, ain't nobody happy."
The one-night performance on the North Manchester campus begins at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20 in Cordier Auditorium. Sponsored by campus Conference Services, tickets are $20, $10 for students (including Manchester College students) and anyone under 18. Purchase tickets at the door or in advance at the North Manchester Chamber of Commerce or by calling Conference Services at 877-MC-GUEST.
