Joys and Concerns
There is much that connects us to each other in this community of faith. Please keep these thoughts in your hearts and minds in the days to come.

Within our church family:
We celebrate the marriage of Shelly Power and Thomas Lopez, Saturday, October 2 in South Carolina. Shelly is the daughter of Donna Priest.
We celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our Nursery School. May it continue to be a place of learning, sharing and growing.
Those who were unable to worship with us due to their current health limitations, including: Helen Evans, Margie Petry, Gene Snyder, Dorothy Watson and Louise Miller.
For Lucile Kinsley in Timbercrest Healthcare following surgery this past week for a broken hip.
For Tammy Gonzales, the daughter of DeWayne & Doris Snell, hospitalized in Naperville, IL. Tammy suffered a severe stroke early Wednesday morning, September 29.
For Wayne Ross recovering at home following a recent hospitalization.

Within the wider community:
Our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We pray for the many, many Junior and Senior High Youth, and others who hunger for Christian fellowship and nurture as they face threats and difficult choices each day.
         We pray for peace.

More Address Changes:
Please let the church office know of any changes in your address, phone, e-mail or contact information. Thank you!

Progressive Church Gathering
The third Progressive Brethren Gathering will be held on November 12-14, at our church. The conference will explore the theme: Forward Together: Conversations Towards an Enlivened Community.

Ruthann K. Johansen, President of Bethany Theological Seminary, will be the keynote speaker. Her presentation is entitled, “Becoming Incarnational People.” In addition to the keynote address, various workshops will offer opportunities for conversation and reflection on Saturday afternoon.

Consistent with other progressive gatherings, vibrant music and worship will be an important part of the event. Debbie Eisenbise, pastor of the Skyridge COB in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Kreston Lipscomb, pastor of First COB in Springfield, IL, are scheduled to preach. Mutual Kumquat will perform on Friday evening.

Cost of the two-day event is $100, with limited scholarships available and special rates for students and children. On-line registration is available at www.progressivebrethren.org.

World Community Day
“Building the Beloved Community”
Friday, November 5
9:30 a.m. at Liberty Mills
Church of the Brethren
This year’s celebration of World Community Day honors the challenge left to us by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It will be a gathering to renew our faith and commitment to wholeness, economic justice and a Beloved Community.

The Journal of Brethren Life
The well-conceived and scholarly contributions to Brethren Life & Thought are central to our way of being a church of discerning, of using reason in service to faith. As a denomination we are rich in good writing and thinking. We ought also to be rich in our support of this work. If you are in a position to become a patron by making a contribution or subscribing to support the journal, this is the time to do it! The journal is trying to live off a small endowment gathered many years ago. You may find subscription forms in the back of each issue in the church library.

Sunday School Opportunities
All Things Considered will be talking about Barbara Brown Taylor's An Altar in the World for the next four Sundays. Next Sunday we will have two guests: Karen and Kurt. On October 17, John Hartsaugh and Jan Fahs will join us. On October 24, Dorotha Fry Mason and Helen Beery. On October 31, Cheri Krueckeberg (Manchester College) and Sue Wilhelm (Victory Knoll Center, Huntington). Each will share about their own spiritual disciplines and class members will be invited to share about theirs as well.

Coat Confusion

Please return my beige wind-breaker. It is size small. “Trail Blazer” is the label. It was mis-takenly traded at Communion Sunday night.
Thanks, Jane Harshbarger

Please return my wool coat. It is a dark navy herringbone weave. There must have been some confusion Sunday evening!
