Manchester Church of the Brethren
November 7, 2010 Memo

Joys and Concerns
There is much that connects us to each other in this community of faith. Please keep these thoughts in your hearts and minds in the days to come.

Within our church family:
The family of Ken Brown. Ken died early Wednesday morning, November 3. The memorial service is Sunday, November 14 at
2 pm in Cordier Auditorium on the Manchester College campus.
Wayne Ross recovering following a recent hospitalization.
Those who were unable to worship with us due to their current health limitations, including: Jane Cassell, Barbara Smith, Don & Dorothy Gable, and Eunice Brightbill.
And we pray a prayer of Thanksgiving for the rich, full life of Edith Weaver-Mann, Martha Bowman’s aunt. Edith died this past week in Pennsylvania at the age of 105.

Within the wider community:
Our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We celebrate with the members of IBE and Sarah Hall as she is welcomed to serve among them in ministry. We hold IBE and Sarah in prayer and offer our love and support.
For those attending the Progressive Brethren Gathering this coming weekend here in our building.
         We pray for peace.

CAMP MACK BOARD NAMES NEW BUILDING; CONSTRUCTION BEGINS
At its October 30th meeting the Indiana Camp Board chose names for the building that will house the office and dining services formerly located in Becker Lodge that was destroyed in a July 11th fire. Names of all facilities at Camp Mack are named for Brethren leaders. The first new building will be called the John Kline Welcome Center. John Kline, a minister and doctor from Broadway, Virginia during the Civil War era traveled across the Mason-Dixon line treating the injured or sick on both sides.
The kitchen and dining rooms will comprise the Kate Warstler Dining Center in honor and memory of Kate Warstler, a long-term and beloved Camp Mack cook. Kate was the first full-time cook at Camp Mack beginning in 1977
The new offices will be called the Manly Deeter Office Complex in memory of Manly Deeter.   Deeter was a member of the locating committee that chose the land for Camp Mack and also a member of the Incorporating Committee.
On November 1st, construction began on this large multipurpose structure. Earth was moved preparing for the foundations that are expected to be done as soon as possible. The goal is to have this building operational by June 1, ready to serve the coming summer’s campers.
Persons are invited to give to Camp Mack’s building fund whether the gift is a dollar, a million dollars, or somewhere in between. Because of the financial support of countless persons, for 85 years Camp Mack has been a sanctuary where people connect with God through faith formation, experiencing creation and building Christian Community.
To donate to the building fund, send checks to Camp Mack, P.O. Box 158, Milford, IN 46542 or visit www.campmack.org and make your donation on line.

Heifer International's 23rd Living Gift Market
November 13 at Timbercrest
10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Featuring Joni’s Animals All Day
If you could have any gift you wished, what would it be? Peace on earth, an end to hunger, preservation of the environment, education for a child? These gifts are available to you, one small piece at a time. Heifer International works toward dreams like these through people like you.
There comes a time when your mother has enough sweaters, your clients have more holiday food than they can eat, and another toy will just be lost in the shuffle. If you’re looking for a different way to honor the people close to you, attend the Living Gift Market.
A Living Gift Market “sells” food and income-producing animals like pigs, bees, chicks and heifers. The animals go to hungry, rural families working to improve their lives, and are delivered with technical training in animal care and concern for the environment.
Whole communities are changed through your gifts. Along with training, Heifer International provides a female animal or starter flock to each family, and one or more male animals to the community for breeding purposes. Veterinary services, extension advice, and organization support ensure lasting benefits.
You’ll get attractive gift cards for those you have chosen to honor. They include the story of Heifer International’s work through food and income-producing animals.
Buy a gift animal such as a goat, rabbit, pig, bee or heifer. Each Market gift gives over and over again. You honor a friend or loved one with an attractive card stating your gift. Heifer Turns Recipients Into Donors. One gift turns into many as more lives are transformed through Heifer’s cornerstone of “Passing on The Gift.” Each recipient of a Heifer animal promises to give back to the community by passing on an offspring of their animal to a neighbor in need-extending the reach of hope to create a living chain of giving.
Heifer had 928 active projects in 54 countries and 28 U.S. states in fiscal year 2009. Uses of Funds as a % of Total Expenses: Programs: 75% Fund Raising: 18% Administrative: 7%

If anyone is willing to help, they’ll be needed at 1:00 on that day. Please have them contact me if they’re interested at 260-982-0741, or Haley.Brandenburg@PeabodyRC.org
