Joys and Concerns
Please keep these concerns in your minds and hearts in the coming days.
Within our church family:
• We celebrate the birth of Asher James Miller, son of Rob & Jeanesse Miller on Easter Sunday morning, April 24. Asher is the great-grandson of Vernon Miller and Ernie & Cleona Barr and the great-nephew of Judi Brown.
• Those Deacons we hold in prayer this week: Amy Shively, Elizabeth Waas-Smith, Jeannie Trachsel and April White.
• We pray for those who were unable to worship with us due to their current health limitations, including: Kathryn Becker, Betty Campbell, Helen Hollenberg and Evan Kinsley.
• Bob Nelson recovering at Timbercrest following a recent hospitalization.
• Eunice Brightbill recovering at Timbercrest following a recent hospitalization.
• Ray Bowman who moved to Healthcare at Timbercrest while recovering from pneumonia.
• Barry Deardorff recovering at home following a fall Thursday, May 5, in which he broke his nose.
Within the wider community:
• Our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We pray for Dr. Maria Guzman and Health Promoter Carmen as they meet the many health needs of the people of San Raphael.
• We pray for peace.
Deep Appreciation
What a blessing to be a part of this church family. Thank you for the many ways you showed your love and caring during the illness and death of my sister, Mary Elizabeth Young. With deep appreciation, Dorotha Fry Mason and Joe Mason

Easter Greetings
Greetings in this time of Easter; may the spirit of the Risen Jesus encourage you in your faith and hope to continue working to make possible the Peace and Justice of God among us. During our week of prayer, we have been praying for your church; your testimony and the love of all the sisters and brothers in Manchester Church of the Brethren.
“We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” Thessalonians 1: 2-3
Pastor and Deacons, Iglesia Bautista Emmanuel, San Salvador, El Salvador

CROP Walk is May 15
It's not too late to sign up for the CROP Walk on Sunday, May 15. Contact the church office or call Kay Batdorf at 982-8789 and we will get materials to you so you can collect sponsors/donations in time for the walk. When you walk in the CROP Hunger Walk, you are raising money to help fight hunger but you are also walking in solidarity with all of those people around the world who are walking for food, for water, and for firewood each day. The CROP Hunger Walk isn't about Church World Service fighting hunger -- it's truly about all of us fighting hunger in many ways throughout the world. Come walk with us!
The CROP walk begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, leaving from the Warvel Park main pavilion. There is a three mile long route and a shorter route for those who choose to go less distance. Proceeds from the walk benefit Church World Service, an interdenominational organization which responds to disaster situations and areas of extreme poverty around the world. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds return to Wabash County to benefit those living in poverty.
Manchester College Presents:

Packers needed for Backpacks
Our church is assigned May 27 to pack "Blessings in a Backpack" so, if you have about an hour on Friday, May 27, at 1:15, come to Manchester Elementary School. RSVP to Denny Unger (982-6928) or Joan Fahs (982-8680).
Summer Garden Space
Did you ever want to grow your own vegetables but never had enough space for a garden? This summer, garden space will be available to church family members on the west side of the church property. The soil will be tilled for you; all you need to do is supply seeds or plants, hoe the weeds, and reap the harvest. For more details, contact either Joel Eichenauer (982-1509) or Dave Kreps (982-8251). We need to know how many people are interested in becoming vegetable gardeners this summer before plans can be finalized.
Vigil Volunteers Needed
Please call Deb Guy, volunteer coordinator for Heartland Hospice, at 260-484-7622. They need people to sit with hospice patients who are dying and alone. Full training provided. No medical care required.
Market Place 29 A.D. June 19-22
(5:15 to 7:45 pm)
Hope you’ve checked your summer calendar and have marked off these days for our special Vacation Bible School! How ‘bout inviting your friends and neighbors to join us as well? Children will be receiving registration forms in their Sunday School classes beginning May 1. Please turn in completed forms to the church office. Our registration deadline is Thursday, May 26. Extra forms (to share with friends and neighbors) will be available in the Peace Patch and the church office. Feel free to contact any of the VBS directors: LauraGable (578-0378), Jennifer Reichenbach or Kim Reinoehl.
MarketPlace 29 A.D. June 19 – 22
Kids aren’t the only ones we need at VBS! Adults & youth can sign up on the poster in the Narthex. Remember, this is a special opportunity for people of all generations to participate…as a vendor (assistant) in the MarketPlace or as a ‘village wanderer’ or as a tribal parent (assistant) or even as our ‘synagogue rabbi!’ We always need a VBS music leader (assistant) and recreation leader (assistant) and Bible Story Tellers. Maybe you’d rather help with food prep or childcare? You’re welcome to contact Laura Gable with any questions, suggestions, and how you’d like to be a part of this awesome experience!
If we don’t hear from you first, you may be hearing from us! Feel free to contact any of the VBS directors: Laura Gable (578-0378), Jennifer Reichenbach or Kim Reinoehl.
ALERT: Our South Central District is scheduled to provide volunteers in Brentwood, Tennessee, (just south of Nashville) for flood recovery December 11-17, 2011. The work will include repair and building new. Detailed information about disaster relief projects is available in the church office as well as the district office. You can call Cliff Kindy for up-dates.
There are Children's Disaster service volunteers presently on assignment in Alabama after the recent tornadoes. Emergency Clean-Up Buckets are needed and would make a nice project for your congregation and contributions can be made for Brethren Disaster Ministries and Children's Disaster Services through the Emergency Disaster Fund, 1451 Dundee Ave, Elgin, IL 60120. Blessings to you in this work!
