Joys and Concerns
Please keep these concerns in your minds and hearts in the coming days:

Within our church family:
We hold these Deacons in prayer this week: Karl Merritt, Bev Petry, Sharon Pittman, Steve & Donna Priest and Celia Shankster.
We pray for those who were unable to wor-ship with us last Sunday due to their current health limitations, including: Erma Petry, Fred & Lois Roop and Raymon Eller
The family of Ruth Kurtz who died Sunday evening, July 24. Memorial Services are tentatively being planned for August 18.
Howard Uhrig recovering in Timbercrest Healthcare following his recent hospitalization.
Russ Hoover recovering at home following heart valve replacement.
Lana Groombridge at home following surgery. Lana will have further treatment once she has fully recovered.
Graham Groombridge and his family at the death of his mother, Joan Groombridge on Sunday, July 17, in New Zealand. Graham will be traveling to New Zealand in August for the service.
Mary Lahman and family at the death of her father, Gene Plunkett, on July 21. The Service was Sunday afternoon, July 24.
We pray for those who left early Sunday morning, July 24, to repair water lines in Nicaragua at Walakitang, the village where the Medical Practicum team has served. The group includes: Julie Garber, Rusty, Marcie, Paige and Mackenzie Coulter-Kern, Gary Heckman and Dan Krouse.

Within the wider community:
Our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We pray for Pastor Miguel Tomas Castro and the Deacon Board as they work to more fully meet the growing pastoral needs of the community which Emanuel serves.
For those in Norway whose lives were taken and the families whose lives are forever changed by the violence that occurred on Friday, July 22.
We continue our prayer for peace.

Gratitude
We wish to thank our church family who have supported me, Edith and our entire family with your calls, food, visitations, cards, prayers, words of encouragement and yes, chocolate through this very sad and difficult time after Don’s sudden passing on July 5. We thank Pastors Karen and Joan, and Diana Bucher for the lovely funeral service, Pastor Jim for comfort during the hospital vigil at Lutheran, and Jan Fahs-Brown and the many, many hands that went into preparing and cleaning up a wonderful family dinner for 35 following interment. It is at times like these that the care and concern from our church family reminds each of us just how important community is and how vital each member of this church is. We thank you all most sincerely.
Jean, Edith, and all the Don Stone family

Marie Frantz will celebrate 100 years!
Dean & Marie Frantz have moved to The Cedars: 14409 Sunrise Court, Leo, IN 46765 (260.627.8038) and will celebrate Marie’s birth-day on August 7 with her family. Cards would be appreciated. Since her vision is very low, please consider sending an “audio card.”

Many Thanks
Martha Miller donated three paperback books to the church library: one a children’s book, “Being a Friend to Planet Earth” by Ellen Sabin; “Growing up Global” is a parenting book by Homa Tavangar, and “You are the Earth” by David Suzuki will be in the children’s section even though it is of interest to adults!
Thank you, Martha, for your thoughtful gift!

Circles of Trust Groups
This fall will mark the fourth year that groups will gather for a time of personal discernment and spiritual formation through a process known as “Circles of Trust.”
Developed by Parker Palmer, these groups seek to assist persons in their spiritual journey through the use of silence, readings, scripture, individual and small-group reflection.
If you wish to be involved in a circle this fall, contact Steve Cripe, Helen Beery or Jim Chinworth.

Youth Services Bureau

Executive Board Meeting Report
At its meeting on July 20, 2011, the Executive Board:
• opened the meeting with devotions led by Jeff Trachsel.
• spent time with Jim learning what salmon can teach us about the art of facing things, and reflecting on Annual Conference.
• received the Treasurer’s report as of June 31. Contributions exceeded budgeted expense by $54,256. Other income exceeded expense by $18,864. Included in other income are facility rentals and nursery school tuitions.
• received an update on our participation in the FunFest parade. The banner has been ordered and the giant balloon of the world was displayed at the meeting.
• learned the 2012 budget parameters have been set by Stewardship, who gave additional counsel to commission chairs on their budget development. A working budget will be ready for the August meeting and a final budget will
be adopted in September, prior to the fall council meeting.
• established a Special Purpose fund for funeral dinners.
• adopted the recommendation from Steward-ship to split the tithe from the Eldridge estate ($7,575) between Camp Mack and the Early Learning Center. The use of the remaining 90% from the estate will be decided upon at a later time.
• approved a request for membership. This person will be received by the congregation during an upcoming worship service

Manchester College on the Honor Roll
Manchester College is a leader among the nation’s colleges and universities. For the fifth year in a row, the school is on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
In addition to this honor, another student project will create an economic index to help Wabash County woo business and industry. The start-up project – underwritten by a $16,000 grant from Ball Brothers Foundation Venture Fund – will serve as a model for other rural areas, said John Deal, chair of the College’s economics program. Join the Fun Fest Hymn Sing

The Fellowship of Churches moved the annual Fun Fest Hymn Sing to the Firehouse last year in order to revive the tradition. We will again host this event to kick off the Fun Fest on Thursday evening, August 11, at 7 p.m. at the Firehouse.   We are looking for volunteers to serve as guest song leaders. On another note, we could also use performers between hymns. Please contact Teri Workman, phone 839-9114, taworkman@ctlnet.com
