Joys and Concerns
Please keep these concerns in your minds and hearts in the coming days:

Within our church family:
The family of Howard Uhrig. Howard died Tuesday, August 2. His memorial service will be Friday, August 12, at 2 pm in the Timbercrest Chapel with visitation following the service.
Ken Frantz on the death of his brother, Dean, Tuesday, August 2. The service was Saturday, August 6, at Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren.
We hold these Deacons in prayer this week: Di Wion, Dorotha Williams, Barbara McFadden, and Don & Marie Willoughby.
We pray for those who were unable to wor-ship with us due to their current health limitations, including: Margie Petry, Gene Snyder and Louise Miller.
Andrew Duffy who will be traveling to Afghanistan to work with government leaders to build a democracy.
Ruby Tyner recovering at the home of her sister following a recent hospitalization.
Wilbur McFadden recovering in Timbercrest Healthcare following a recent hospitalization.
Joyce McFadden, hospitalized at Lutheran following surgery Saturday, August 6, for an ankle broken in a fall.
Eunice Brightbill in Timbercrest Healthcare following a recent hospitalization for a stroke.
Milly Gilbert recovering in Timbercrest Healthcare following a recent hospitalization.
Grace Smith, Marilyn Kieffaber’s mother, who will be having a medical procedure on Thursday, August 11.
         Emerson Niswander in Timbercrest healthcare.
Mike Brown at home. At this time, Mike’s family asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers rather than make personal visits.

Within the wider community:
Our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We pray for the Youth House ministry which struggles to continue its excellent and broad ministry to youth and young adults.
We pray for the families of those recently killed in the helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
And in the midst of continuing violence around the world, we pray for peace.

CAMP MACK SUNDAY is AUGUST 21
Plan now to join us at 10:30 am in an awesome outdoor worship experience in full view of God’s creation along Lake Waubee at Wedding Hill.
Around 11:30 am we will continue our fellowship by either dining in the new John Kline Welcome Center or enjoying a relaxing picnic out on a blanket. Following lunch, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, swimming and boating are available with lifeguards on duty. Hiking is also an option.
We hope you are looking forward to sharing August 21 with us at Camp Mack because there will be NO worship service held in our building that day. Camp Mack is about a 45-minute drive from North Manchester. Maps directing you to Camp Mack will be available.
If you have not already made lunch reservations, please do so by either calling the church office before August 12 or by signing up on our reservation sheet in the Narthex. Meal costs are $8 per person over 8 years old and $4 for ages 3 to 8.
Calling New Deacons
On Sunday, August 28,we will take intentional time during worship to prayerfully consider those we wish to call as Deacons from our congregation. Perhaps the first question to ask is the simplest: “What exactly is a deacon?”
Certainly there are as many interpretations of the role of deacon as there are deacons. Deacons are called to be dedicated caregivers who use their spiritual gifts of compassion, empathy, acceptance and support for the well-being of the congregation. Deacons are to be sensitive to the presence of God’s spirit in their lives and in the lives of others. As we call ten new deacons, reflect on those gifts that are desired to serve in a deacon.

All Sunday School Staff Consecration
Sunday, August 28, during worship we will consecrate our staff of Christian Education workers. If you are involved in our Christian Education Program at ANY age level, please allow us to offer our support for you in this vital ministry as we lift you up, seeking God’s Blessing. During Fellowship Time, we offer a tangible symbol of our support to all Sunday School Staff. Please choose a bookmark as a token reminder of our acknowledgement of your dedication as you begin a new year of Christian Education.

Camp Mack Challenge
The Camp Mack Golf Outing is on August 20 at McCormick Creek Golf Course at Nappanee. Registration is at 7:00 a.m. with a shot-gun start at 8:00 a.m. Go to www.campmack.org or call the camp office for a registration form.   Here’s the challenge! Be recognized as the congregation with the mostteams entered! Or be recognized as a congregation having a team for the first time ever at a Camp Mack Golf Outing! And then the bigger challenge! Help raise funds to meet the increasingly large number of camper scholarships needed by those who would otherwise be unable to have the excitement, fun, relationships and faith formation experienced through time at camp. Proceeds from the golf tournaments provide about 33% of the scholarship funds raised during the year. Scholarship funds are also raised at the Camp Mack Festival. Let us work together to make a difference in the life of a child! Encourage your congregation to be well represented at the Camp Mack Golf Outing on August 20!

Camp Mack Festival
Saturday, October 1, 2011, 9a-4p

Plan to enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment. You can also vote for your favorite scarecrow, check out the silent auction or attend the benefit auction.
All ages are welcome! Handicap parking and transportation is available for those with special needs. Admission and parking are free. Festival proceeds help underwrite summer camp scholarships.

District Disaster Coordinator
A new project is just opening after the tornadoes hit the southern and eastern United States this spring. There is an urgent need for skilled volunteers and supporters for building new houses to replace homes destroyed by those storms. Let me know if you have a team of 15 to send or a few folks we can add to teams coming from other churches. Call Cliff Kindy at 982-2971.
Remember that we are organizing to place fifteen volunteers from our South/Central Indiana District in Belleville, Tennessee from December 11-17 to respond to the flooding that hit that region last year. Thank you for your support of this good work; Blessings to you!
Cliff Kindy, District Disaster Coordinator
