Joys and Concerns
Please keep these concerns in your minds and hearts in the coming days:

Within our church family:
We celebrate with Denny & Becky Unger. Sunday, August 14, was their 35th wedding anniversary.
We also celebrate with Jennifer Jones & Trisha Hanes on the adoption of their daughters, Aubrey and Harper.
We pray for the family of Mike Brown. Mike died early the morning of Wednesday, August 10. The memorial service will be Sunday, September 4, in our sanctuary.
We pray for the family of Emerson Niswander. Emerson died Wednesday afternoon, August 10. The memorial service will be Saturday, August 27, at 11 am. In our sanctuary.
We hold these Deacons in prayer this week: Francis Barr, Liz Hoffman Bauer, Ann Beattie, Angilee Beery, Stan Beery and Joan Fahs.
We pray for those who were unable to wor-ship with us due to their current health limitations, including: Jane Cassell, Barbara Smith, Beth Stone and Eunice Brightbill.
Joyce McFadden hospitalized at Lutheran following a heart attack.
Eunice Brightbill recovering in Timbercrest Healthcare following a recent hospitalization.
Wilbur McFadden recovering in Timbercrest Healthcare following surgery Friday for a kidney stone.
All those who keep their concerns close to their hearts.
We pray for the teachers, students, parents and staff as public school begins a new year this Friday.

Within the wider community:
Our sister church in El Salvador, Emanuel Baptist. We pray for Lidia Castro Mendez as she plans for and selects young women eligible for educational and vocational scholarships for the coming year.
And today, as everyday, we continue our prayer for peace.

CAMP MACK SUNDAY is AUGUST 21
Plan now to join us at 10:30 am in an awesome outdoor worship experience in full view of God’s creation along Lake Waubee at Wedding Hill.         Around 11:30 am we will continue our fellowship by either dining in the new John Kline Welcome Center or enjoying a relaxing picnic on a blanket. Following lunch, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, swimming and boating are available with lifeguards on duty. Hiking is also an option.
We hope you are looking forward to sharing August 21 with us at Camp Mack because there will be NO worship service held in our building that day. Camp Mack is about a 45-minute drive from North Manchester. Maps directing you to Camp Mack will be available.

Camp Mack Challenge
The Camp Mack Golf Outing is on Saturday, August 20, at McCormick Creek Golf Course at Nappanee. Registration is at 7:00 a.m. with a shot-gun start at 8:00 a.m. Go to www.campmack.org or call the camp office for a registration form.   Here’s the challenge! Be recognized as the congregation with the mostteams entered! Or be recognized as a congregation having a team for the first time ever at a Camp Mack Golf Outing! And then the bigger challenge! Help raise funds to meet the increasingly large number of camper scholarships needed by those who would otherwise be unable to have the excitement, fun, relationships and faith formation experienced through time at camp. Proceeds from the golf tournaments provide about 33% of the scholarship funds raised during the year. Scholarship funds are also raised at the Camp Mack Festival. Let us work together to make a difference in the life of a child! Encourage your congregation to be well represented at the Camp Mack Golf Outing on August 20!

Come and join everyone at the ALL-CHURCH ICE CREAM SOCIAL on Sun-day, August 28, at 6:30 P.M.  The ice cream will be waiting for you, but you bring a scrumptious dessert to share, along with your favorite topping.

Calling New Deacons
On Sunday, August 28,we will take intentional time during worship to prayerfully consider those we wish to call as Deacons from our congregation. Perhaps the first question to ask is the simplest: “What exactly is a deacon?”
Certainly there are as many interpretations of the role of deacon as there are deacons. Deacons are called to be dedicated caregivers who use their spiritual gifts of compassion, empathy, acceptance and support for the well-being of the congregation. Deacons are to be sensitive to the presence of God’s spirit in their lives and in the lives of others. As we call ten new deacons, reflect on those gifts that are desired to serve in a deacon.

All Sunday School Staff Consecration
Sunday, August 28, during worship we will consecrate our staff of Christian Education workers. If you are involved in our Christian Education Program at ANY age level, please allow us to offer our support for you in this vital ministry as we lift you up, seeking God’s Blessing. During Fellowship Time, we offer a tangible symbol of our support to all Sunday School Staff. Please choose a bookmark as a token reminder of our acknowledgement of your dedication as you begin a new year of Christian Education.

Interfaith Initiative
With new tools and advice gathered at the White House last week, Manchester College is taking the lead on an interfaith initiative to boost literacy rates and reduce hunger in our community. The College was among about 200 representatives from higher education and seminaries who gathered at the White House to kick off the President’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge.
“In a partnership with local churches, we will use education and coordinated service to improve the literacy rates in our community and combat the poverty level,” said Carole Miller-Patrick, coordinator of the Manchester College Center for Service Opportunities. The full news release is below and on our website at http://www.manchester.edu/news/ObamaChallenge.htm

District Announcement
Dear brothers and sisters of the South/Central Indiana District, It is with regret and sadness that I am sharing the following news with you. At this past Monday’s District Board Meeting, our District Executive Minister, Beth Sollenberger, informed us that the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren held a congregational meeting on Sunday afternoon, August 7, in which they voted (15-2) to leave the Church of the Brethren. Please remember this congregation and the District Board in your prayers as we work through this loss and seek God’s will for these facilities.
